Passports & Visas
To enter the Turks and Caicos Islands British visitors need a valid passport. British citizens do not require a visa for holiday purposes providing their stay does not exceed 90 days and they hold a return or outward ticket.

From January 2007, all US citizens visiting the Turks and Caicos Islands must be in possession of a valid US passport. No visa is required for stays up to 30 days.

Canadians are required only to be in possession of valid photo identification and proof of citizenship for entry to TCI, but remember that if you are travelling via the US you will need to carry a passport. Travellers must also possess a round-trip or onward ticket and sufficient funds for their stay. Canadians do not require a tourist visa.

Visas are required for residents of some countries for entry into the Turks and Caicos Islands, so make sure you check when planning your journey

Service Charge & Tipping
Tipping is normally given to waiters at a rate of 15%. Taxi drivers, maids and porters will also appreciate a tip.

Telephone
The IDD code for the Turks and Caicos Islands is +1 649 followed by a seven figure island number. When telephoning within the island, dial the seven digits.

The internet is available at internet cafés and some hotels and there are public phone booths that take credit cards and phone cards.

Time Zone
The Turks and Caicos Islands are in the Eastern Standard Time Zone, which is five hours behind Greenwich Mean Time, ie Britain in winter, and six hours behind Europe. It is on the same time as the eastern seaboard of the United States.

Daylight Saving Time is observed in the TCI from March until November, when the time is shifted forward by one hour in line with the northern hemisphere. It remains five hours behind the UK, six behind Europe and on the same time as the eastern seaboard of the US.
