Beaches There are only a few beaches in Statia and they lack the white sand for which the Caribbean is generally known. Swimming on the Atlantic side is not generally recommended due to the strong undertow.
Oranje Bay, Caribbean side
A short stretch of beige and black sand beach just north of Lower Town which is popular with Statians on the weekend. Lies on the calmer Caribbean Sea and gets excellent views of the sunset.
Zeelandia Beach, Atlantic side
Two miles of deserted black and tan sand to walk and beachcomb. Swimming is not recommend due to the dangerous undertow. Good spot to sunbathe when not too windy.
Lynch Beach, Atlantic side
A small beach with light brown sand. Water is shallow enough for children during certain times of the year but stay near the shore and watch out for the undertow. |
