Passports & Visas
Proof of citizenship is required. A valid passport is recommended for all visitors, however Canadian and British citizens may present a driver's license or official ID card as proof of citizenship. Visitors from the US are reminded that from January 8th 2007, all US citizens visiting the Caribbean must be in possession of a valid US passport. An onward or return ticket is required as well as proof of funds for the duration of the stay.

Entry visas may be required of visitors from other countries and can be obtained from British Consulate offices. CARICOM citizens can travel on an official ID card, which must bear a photograph of the individual.

A 10% service charge is added to most restaurant bills, if not then a small amount will be appreciated.

The IDD code for Montserrat is t 1 664 followed by a seven digit island number which begins with 491. When on the island dial the full seven numbers.

High speed internet access and cellular service are available. Two mobile access platforms are available, so if you have roaming activated your phone is likely to work. It is possible to purchase local SIM cards at US$6 and a temporary phone rental service is available for US$20 a month.

Time Zone
Montserrat is on Atlantic Standard Time, which is four hours behind GMT (Britain in winter) and five behind Europe. During the winter it is an hour ahead of the eastern seaboard of the USA.

Montserrat has no summer daylight saving time, so when the clocks change for the summer farther north, the island is five hours behind Britain and on the same time as the eastern seaboard.
