Passports & Visas
Canada
A valid Canadian passport is required for Canadians intending to visit Martinique. The passport must be valid for at least three months beyond the date of your departure.

United Kingdom
British citizens must be in possession of a valid ten year passport and return ticket.

United States
As of Janaury 8 2007, all US citizens visiting the Caribbean must be in possession of a valid US passport.

US, Canadian and EU citizens including those from the UK are not required to obtain a visa to visit Martinique for tourist or business travel for stays of up to three weeks. If you plan to visit the island for longer, or for reasons other than tourism or business, you should contact a Martinique consulate or embassy office. Certain nationalities do require a visa. Please contact the nearest Martinique consulate or French embassy for more information.

Service Charge/Tipping
As with metropolitan France, service is included in restaurant and hotel bills on Martinique. However with so many American visitors, for whom tipping is the norm, the issue has become a little clouded – at any rate, a gesture will be appreciated if you feel that you've received excellent service. Taxi cab drivers may expect a tip, especially for longer trips.

Telephone
The IDD code for Martinique is t 596, followed by a six-digit local number. On island dial just the six digits.

There are both payphones and card phones on the island. Phonecards (télécartes) are sold at post offices, newsagents and kiosks.

Roaming agreements exist with international mobile phone companies. Coverage extends throughout the French Antilles and in French Guiana.

There are a few internet cafes in Martinique, predominantly in the cities such as Fort de France and main tourist areas.

Time Zone
Martinique is in the Atlantic Standard Time Zone, which is four hours behind GMT (Britain in winter) and five behind Europe and mainland France. During the winter the island is an hour ahead of the eastern seaboard of the USA.

Martinique has no daylight saving time, so when the clocks go forward in summer in the northern hemisphere the island is five hours behind Britain, six behind France and Europe and on the same time as Eastern Standard Time in the USA.
