Cruises
Curaçao has two docks for cruise ships, both in Willemstad. Large ships dock at the Mega Pier whilst the smaller ships tend to dock at Mathey Wharf in the cruise terminals within the harbour.

Several major US and European cruise lines visit Curaçao and it is a popular port of call for the large liners because of its enormous duty-free shopping in Willemstad. A selection of the smaller and more stylish cruise ships that call in at the island include Sea Cloud Cruises, Silversea Cruises and Windstar Cruises.

Currency/Credit Cards
The currency of Curaçao is the Netherlands Antilles florin, which is fixed to the US dollar at US$1 = NAFL 1.78. However, the US dollar is used just as widely as the Florin. You can survive entirely in the currency if you wish. Credit cards are also accepted in all the hotels and any but the smallest shops and restaurants.

Money can be exchanged at hotel cash desks but you will find a better exchange rate at the bank.

Departure Tax & Taxes
There is a departure tax of US$20 for international flights, or NAFI10 for flights to the other Dutch Caribbean islands.

A government tax of 7% is added to all accommodation bills. You can also expect a service charge of 12% to be added as well.

Electricity
Electricity is 127/120 VAC at 50 cycles. US style two pronged flat plugs. Most US appliances will work well, except for electrical devices with internal time mechanisms.

Visitors from Europe will need an adapter plug. These can be found on the island and most hotels keep them in stock but bring one in case. Only dual voltage appliances from Europe can be used on the island.
