Cruises
Cruise ships do occasionally dock in Bonaire but it is not a major cruise destination. Bonaire is however popular with yachters and small ships and there are a number of moorings that are available for $10 per day. Contact the Harbour Village Marina, t 717 7419, for mooring bookings and assignments.

Some of the smaller cruise ships that call into the island include Sea Cloud Cruises and Windstar Cruises.

Currency/Credit Cards
The currency of Bonaire is the Netherlands Antilles florin, which is fixed to the US dollar at US$1 = NAFI 1.78. Practically speaking, the dollar is used just as widely as the Florin. Credit cards are also accepted at shops and restaurants accustomed to tourists. It is probably better to carry cash for small purchases.

Money can be exchanged at hotel cash desks but you will find a better exchange rate at the bank.

Departure Tax & Taxes
Effective, January 1, 2007, the Departure Tax for all international destinations is USD $32 per person, payable in cash or credit card at the airport prior to check-in. Departure tax to Curacao and Aruba is lower.

There is a 5% NAOB tax on virtually all goods and services. Taxes on accommodations are USD$5.50 to $6.50 per person per night. Be aware, some places may not mention this tax in advance and it can add up to quite an amount by the end.
