Moon Dance Villas, which are set on a fantastic stretch of sand at the heart of Negril Beach at Jamaica’s western tip, are a little different for Negril. Where the resort town is known mainly for its large, often all inclusive hotels, these are a small gathering of catered villas in very attractive tropical gardens. There are six of them (with between one and five bedrooms), set in modern buildings with traditional Caribbean features such as verandas and wooden balustrades. Inside, the mixed theme continues, with bright fabrics among the classic wood of the fittings and the furniture. All the activity of Negril beach, the watersports and bars, even the limitless sand to walk, is right there, but Moon Dance is also an enclave of calm. When you want comfortable tranquillity, there are hammocks slung between the sea grape trees and butlers by your side.

KEY FEATURES
Jamaica villas in a Negril resort setting, 300ft of excellent beach, all villas with private Jacuzzis, three villas with private swimming pools. Hobie Cat and other watersports, on-site wedding co-ordinator, all villas with chef, bartender, housekeeper, cable TV, flat screen TVs, DVD, wet bar, PC/free internet access, CD stereo system with speakers inside and outside, massage services, all-inclusive plan available.

STYLE
Moon Dance Villas Negril is a mix of modern and traditional - earthy coloured buildings with glazed blue or green roof-tiles but classic Jamaican balustrades. Inside, there are wooden tray ceilings, four poster beds and verandas with glass French doors. Quite classic furnishings but some funky décor. Easy-going atmosphere with very good levels of service

CLIENT PROFILE
A varied mix of groups of friends and families, with some couples hiding away (two of the smaller cottages are tucked away deep in the gardens)

Beach & Swimming
Moon Dance Villas is set in a double width of beachfront right at the heart of the famous Negril Beach, a superb stretch of sand about five miles long (it is usually referred to as seven miles, but this includes Bloody Bay to the north). The sand at Moon Dance Villas is particularly deep, meaning that you can have some privacy from all the passers-by while still being on the beach. Moon Dance Villas provides loungers, and sunshades and there are hammocks in the trees. The staff of the small resort will bring ‘service’ to the beach. They are also happy to set up barbecues and dinners on the beach for guest of the villas.

Offshore the sand shelves gently into the water, where the swimming is excellent. A reef offshore (a long way offshore, but it can be visited by glass-bottom boat) gives the sea here good protection. You can walk along the beach in either direction for much of its length (something well worth doing) without even getting your feet wet.

There is no ‘central’ pool at the small resort, but some of the villas have their own private pool and the others have a Jacuzzi at least.

Locality
Moon Dance Villas are right at the heart of Negril Beach, ‘Seven Mile Beach’ as it is usually known (actually five miles unless you include Bloody Bay to the north). It is an excellent stretch of sand, backed almost entirely with hotels, bars and other businesses including watersports, and it is great fun to walk along. There are any number of places, both independent bars (try Margaritaville, for instance) and restaurants attached to the hotels, where you can head for a change of scene if you would like one. For a good dinner out you can try Kuyaba or Norma’s and for live music try Alfreds and Bourbon Beach.

The town divides quite neatly into two halves. To the south of the beach, beyond the roundabout (the centre of the town), you come to Negril’s spectacular cliffs, aka the ‘West End’. The bars on the cliffs are equally famous in their way and so there is a handful of good places to visit. Rick’s is very well known but it sees bus tours and so you might want to try somewhere quieter, like the LTU Pub. To dine out on the cliffs try the Rockhouse or the Hungry Lion.

Beyond the lighthouse on the West End you will find Moon Dance Cliffs, Moon Dance Villas’ sister property. It is a small hotel with full service, to which guests at the Villas are of course welcome it if they wish.

Meet & Greet
Moon Dance Villas will happily arrange a taxi to pick you up on your arrival at Sangster International Airport at Montego Bay (you should head for Montego Bay airport rather than Kingston). The transfer takes approximately 90 minutes and costs US$75 each way for two people, which you will be charged locally. Alternatively, if you would prefer to be taken care of from the minute you arrive at the airport, with a range of services that can include limousine transfers and a personal Concierge Service, this is offered by
Glamour Tours.

If you are booking through a travel organiser, it is likely that their representative will be at the airport to meet you. This service and your return airport transfers should be included in the cost of your holiday. Please check at the time of booking.

Getting Around
You may well want to hire a car for a few days to explore Jamaica, which is an exceptionally beautiful island. Rental is easily arranged through your travel organiser or through Moon Dance Villas and vehicles can be picked up and returned at the airport if you wish or delivered to and collected from the property at a pre-arranged time (there may be a drop-off charge). It is fairly normal to rent cars with a driver in Jamaica so that is also an option. Reception will happily arrange a taxi for the day for a tour.

Be aware that during the winter season there can be a shortage of rental cars in Jamaica and so you are advised to book early. Also book early if you want a car for a week or more because pre-booked rates can be better.
