Description Little Seascape is a delightful one bedroom Barbados apartment rental set back from the tree-lined main road just south of Speightstown on the West Coast of Barbados. Little Seascape is one of a number of holiday homes in prime Beachfront Barbados locations in the leafy area of Gibbs. This coastal strip of St Peter has a much quieter feel to it than further down the coast in St James. Traditionally it was the choice of visitors seeking a retreat from the more fashionable beaches, and it remains so today. The most noticeable feature of this part of the island is that there is not a single hotel along the beaches of Gibbs and Mullins. All you will find are villas and smart homes, although one or two of them are large enough to be considered mini hotels in themselves. Although there has been some development in the area over recent years, not much has changed. The only activity of note takes place around the Mullins Beach Bar, as it has done for decades.
Little Seascape occupies the upper floor of a charming, chalet-style house with white Demerara shutters, pine walls and sage green balustrades. Inside the theme continues with white walls and tongue and groove ceilings, lattice wood-fronted cupboards and terracotta floor tiles. An outer stairway leads from the parking bay up to a large tiled sun terrace and veranda (the partially overhanging roof provides some cover). This is an extremely pleasant spot to relax or dine and so a couple of lounge chairs, an umbrella and a small table and chairs are provided. You can even barbecue out on the veranda. A small grill is attached to one of the side railings. Mature mahogany trees, palms and dense planting in neighbouring gardens now obscure glimpses of the sea, however they do provide a pleasing backdrop and cool, tropical ambiance.
You enter Little Seascape from the veranda via double glass-panel doors. These lead straight into a modern, extremely well equipped kitchen which would suit any keen cook (large stainless steel fridge freezer, gas cooker, juicer, blender, toaster, coffee maker and microwave), although it is worth remembering that a housekeeper is on hand to prepare breakfast and lunch, with dinner on request for an extra charge. The kitchen is fitted with white, handmade pine units with lattice fronts and granite worktops with a central island and breakfast bar. Although the kitchen is air-conditioned, it is nice to keep the doors open onto the veranda to create a sense of being outdoors, plus you can still chat to whoever is sitting outside relaxing.
The dining and living area is just off the kitchen. It has been decorated in elegant style with soft furnishings in muted shades of pale green and mustard and window blinds with large tropical leaf prints. The room is long and narrow, running along the front of the apartment, overlooking the driveway. A series of windows are partially screened by Demerara shutters (the type that push out and are held in place by a pole) which creates the impression of being in an enclosed gallery. The dining area, opposite the kitchen, has a glass-topped table for four. Half way down the room there is a PVC wicker-effect reading chair and a chaise longue (sometimes placed out on the veranda) and at the end of the room is a more formal upholstered two-seater sofa.
Opposite here, a large archway leads through to the bedroom, which can be partitioned off by a rattan folding screen. The bedroom itself is air-conditioned and the colour scheme and decorative theme of tropical leaves of the dining area is continued in here. It contains a king size bed with a wooden headboard in ‘distressed’ French style and a wall-mounted LCD cable TV tucked into one corner. On the other side of the room a hallway with built-in wardrobes leads to a partially tiled en suite bathroom, with tiled shower. The hallway also has a door leading back into the kitchen.
With the glorious white sands of Gibbs Beach only a few steps away via your own private pathway, Little Seascape makes a marvellous, romantic, barefoot hideaway for two. It is a rare find amongst the West Coast villas on Barbados. |

Beach & Swimming Little Seascape has beach access via a private pathway onto one of Barbados’ best beaches, Gibbs Beach on Mullins Bay. Looking north it runs into Mullins Beach, a long stretch of glorious golden sand and some of the best swimming on the West Coast. Little Seascape has sole use of the pathway, which is located just off the side of the apartment and runs along the south side of neighbouring Seascape House. The beach is literally within striking distance. A foot bath is provided at the entrance. |

Sports & Recreation The nearest golf course is Royal Westmoreland about 15 minutes drive away, which has some tee times open to outsiders in the mid morning. Otherwise there are two courses open to the public at Sandy Lane, about 20 minutes away. The nearest tennis courts are located at Sugar Hill about 12 minutes drive away. Watersports are available from Mullins Beach. |

Locality Little Seascape is located on a small shared drive with the office below and another private villa, with neighbouring homes and holiday villas nearby. It lies just south of Mullins Bay and the popular Mullins Beach Bar (former Mannie's Suga Suga). Speightstown, the island’s second largest town, is a very short drive away (about 5 minutes). Once known as Little Bristol because of connections to Bristol on the west coast of England, Speightstown still has a feel of old time Barbados about it. There is a small fish market on the seafront, fruit and vegetable sellers known as “hucksters” on the road side, a couple of local restaurants and bars and a smattering of shops, as well as a reasonably well stocked supermarket. The nearest good restaurants to the north are Mango's by the Sea, The Terrace at Cobblers Cove hotel, La Mer at Port St Charles and The Fish Pot at Little Good Harbour. To the south try Lone Star. |

Useful Hints Ask your travel organiser or the management company (if booking direct) for initial food and drink supplies to be laid in for your arrival. The housekeeper will prepare breakfast and lunch 6 days a week, and will prepare dinner on request for an additional charge. A 15% service charge plus VAT will be levied on the value of all shopping bills. Prepayment for your provisional groceries should be made when sending the final balance for the villa. Please see here for Bajan Services general grocery pack list with approximate prices.
Miscellaneous items such as airport transfers, extra beds and baby equipment are also payable in advance (see here for a price list). In the event that Bajan Services can only provide an estimated cost for customized shopping lists, or where the final payment for your villa has been made prior to other requests, you will be required to complete a credit card authorization form.
Please note that rental rates for villas in Barbados do not include ‘tips’ about which you will find advice in the guest information book at the villa.
The ground floor apartment beneath Little Seascape is used as an office, and is currently leased out to a lawyers firm. It has its own entrance on the opposite side to that of Little Seascape. There is a shared drive which also leads to another villa which sits on the beachfront, and again it has its own parking. The private pathway from Little Seascape to the beach is for the use of Little Seascape only and is not for use by the office tenants. |

Your airport transfers take approximately 50 minutes and should be paid for in advance with the final payment for your villa. Alternatively, if you would prefer to be taken care of from the minute you arrive at the airport, with a range of services that can include limousine transfers, a Concierge Service is offered by St James Travel & Tours.

Getting Around A hire car is strongly recommended for all private villa holidays. It will be useful if you want to dine out at night or do lots of sightseeing, but especially when it comes to shopping for groceries - unless you prefer staff to call taxis for you as required. You can book car hire via your travel organiser or direct with Stoutes Car Rentals and ask for your vehicle to be delivered to the property approximately three hours after your scheduled time of arrival on Barbados or the following morning. Vehicles can be returned at the airport or be collected from the property at a pre-arranged time on your departure day. |
