Beach, Leverick Bay
Leverick Bay Resort and Marina is a small hotel with 14 rooms and a handful of condominiums, set above a marina on the North Sound in Virgin Gorda. The central activity is on the waterfront, where a brightly painted building looks out over pretty stretch of sand and the yachts at dock in the marina to the sea. There is a beach bar, a more formal restaurant, shops, a dive centre, a small spa and a café. The bedrooms themselves are set back slightly from this on the hillside, where they stand out in a pleasant jangle of pinks, purples, blues and greens. The rooms are relatively simple and comfortable and they have some self-catering facilities (the four suites in the neighbouring condominiums have full kitchens), enabling you to live independently, while surrounded by all the activity of the North Sound. Leverick Bay also has a lively yachting buzz much of the time, making it a fun, well-priced place to stay.

Beach & Swimming
The rooms are set just above Leverick Bay, where you will find a nice strip of golden sand with calm water looking out onto the marina and beyond it the North Sound. On the beach there is a 50ft swimming pool, beach volleyball and a beach bar (Jumbies). With all the yachts in the marina there is often a good crowd in the bay. The beach bar is particularly popular for its Friday night jump up.

All the beaches of the North Sound can be reached from here. It is possible to get a water taxi or to hire a small boat (if you have the requisite licence) or join a day sail.

Sports & Recreation
Facilities and activities at Leverick Bay Resort include complimentary use of the Astroturf tennis court, which sits just below the rooms. Rackets and balls available from the office (daytime play only).

Watersports are available from the shop on the marina, Leverick Bay Watersports. They have kayaks and snorkelling and waterskiing gear as well as small sailing boats such as Sunfish and Hobie cats. They also hire out 17ft-28ft Bradley Powerboats, which enable you to travel around the North Sound independently. Reservations can put together a special watersports package for you.

Locality
Leverick Bay Resort and Marina is set on Leverick Bay, near the entrance of the North Sound, a superb section of shallow water at the northern end of Virgin Gorda. It is hemmed in by reefs and islands, making it and well protected and giving it superb sand. It is a very popular area for small boat sailing and excursions. Plenty are available from Leverick bay, or you can hire a small boat. The most popular island is Prickly Pear, which has the Sandbox beach bar on one side and a lovely, pristine beach on the other. As with everywhere in the Caribbean, land below the high water mark, ie on the sand, has public access, but the land above this is private. There are bars at Bitter End Yacht Club and Saba Rock and a fine restaurant and a café at Biras Creek.

Back on land, heading inland from Leverick Bay you come to the Bond at the top of the hill, which is a part of the mainly local settlement of Gun Creek. From here the road leads over the high hills to the southern part of the island, eventually coming to the settlement of Spanish Town, where you will find banks, a post office and shops around the marina. Try Chez Bamboo for a nice meal out and Sam’s for an often lively bar. Giorgio’s Table, on the waterfront in Savannah Bay, is also nice.

Along the western shoreline there are several beaches including Savannah Bay, Pond Bay, Mahoe Bay and Mountain Trunk Bay. The famous beaches around the Baths are to the south of the town.

Meet & Greet
If you arrive directly at Leverick Bay (for example off the North Sound Express, which is the best route if you fly into Beef Island, the BVI’s main airport), you will be met on the dock by staff from the resort. You will check in at the office and from there you will be taken to your room/suite.

If you arrive at the south of the island, either at Virgin Gorda Airport or at the Spanish Town ferry terminal, then you should take a taxi to the reception of the Leverick Bay Resort - or you may wish to pick up a car there and make your own way up there. If you arrive after office hours then you can collect your keys at the restaurant.

Getting Around
Life at Leverick Bay looks towards the sea. There are day trips you can take and you can also get around on the ferry, the North Sound Express, which visits the Bitter End Yacht Club, but you can also hire a small boat or arrange to be dropped on one of the other islands and picked up later. Ask at Reception.

If you would like to visit beaches elsewhere on Virgin Gorda (which is most famous for the Baths, of course), or to go out in the evenings, then you might want to hire a car for a couple of days. Cars are available through Leverick Bay Resort or you can organise one in advance through your travel organiser. The car rental company will issue you with your local driving licence at the same time that they deliver the car. Vehicles can be returned at the airport or the ferry terminal or they can be collected from the property at a pre-arranged time on your departure day.
