Description Villa Jonson is a St Lucia private rental villa located on the Cap Estate, near the northern tip of the island. It is set in over an acre of gently sloping landscaped gardens that run right down to the seafront and has wonderful views to Pigeon Island National Park. The grounds are fully enclosed but have a good expanse of lawn and open views, which gives a lovely sense of space. Although it gives directly on the sea, the area in front is very rocky and so it is not suitable for swimming. However the long sandy beach at the Causeway, which was built to link Pigeon Island to the mainland in the 1970s, is within walking distance and offers good swimming. Villa Jonson is an ideal choice for families or groups of friends wanting a St Lucia villa rental with a certain amount of privacy and within an easy drive all the facilities at Rodney Bay.
As you enter the property a pillared archway gives straight into the living area, which has a high white ceiling, white tiles and white walls, all of which give a feel of openness. The focal point is the large picture window which frames and draws in the tropical planting in the garden and the wonderful views. The room is nicely presented, with a set of simply designed upholstered sofas dotted with vibrant red and patterned throw cushions. Off the sitting room is an indoor dining area, which has a modern white pine table with a set of pale blue upholstered chairs to sit six for dinner. There is a serving hatch to the kitchen as well as a small breakfast counter. The kitchen, which is partially open plan and very well equipped, has modern white units. Outside, leading out from the sitting area, there is a large covered terrace with another dining table where you are much more likely to have your breakfast and lunch. It is a good place to sit and relax, but it is also a good vantage point for parents who can sit in the shade whilst keeping an eye on children in the pool.
The paved pool terrace is an extension of the main dining terrace. It has a good size, rectangular swimming pool at its centre and is set right above the gardens. The pool terrace has also been extended with an area of wood decking (enclosed by railing) so you can also eat at the poolside, with fabulous views across the bay.
There are three bedrooms at Jonson Villa. The Master bedroom has twins beds which can be pushed together to make a king bed and a small sitting area so you can enjoy the views across the garden to the sea. The bedroom is air-conditioned, has ceiling fans (the other two bedrooms ceiling fans only), a dressing area and en suite bathroom with tub/shower. The other two bedrooms, one with a double bed and the other with a king bed share a dressing room and bathroom with tub/shower. Bedrooms 2 and 3 each have a king size bed. |

Beach & Swimming Swimming in front of the Villa Jonson is not suitable due to the rocky coastline, however a three minute walk will get you to Causeway Beach, which has two stretches of white sand fronting one side of Rodney Bay. Causeway Beach runs in front of Sandals Grande St Lucia to Pigeon Island National Park. The northern area of the beach is popular with St Lucians on weekends and especially bank holidays, and there is a picnic area. Reduit Beach is the island’s most popular beach and it is located on the other side of Rodney Bay, with a lovely mile long stretch of powder soft sand. It is fairly active. It has a few hotels and a good variety of watersports is available, including waterskiing, parasailing, jetski, sunfish and hobie cat sailing. It takes about ten minutes to reach by car but, if you don’t wish to drive, there is a ferry that runs between the island and Rodney Bay on an hourly schedule
The villa has its own swimming pool, which is of an average size and is set within an enclosed sun terrace, with depths of 4ft to 6ft with entry steps to the shallow end. |

Sports & Recreation The 18-hole, 6829 yard, par 71 course at the St Lucia Golf & Country Club in Cap Estate is within ten minutes drive and has a pro shop, driving range and restaurant. The nearest tennis courts open to the public (courts must be booked in advance) are at the Rex St Lucian in Rodney Bay and at the St Lucia Racquet Club at Club St Lucia, also on the Cap Estate, which has 7 floodlit Laykold cushioned tennis courts, a squash court and gym. There are also two squash courts at the St Lucia Yacht Club on Reduit Beach in Rodney Bay. The Sportivo fitness centre at Rodney Heights is St Lucia’s largest gym and offers yoga, Tai Chi and Karate classes. There is a full service spa at LeSport Hotel which you can visit with a day pass. |

Locality Villa Jonson is located within the Cap Estate area of St Lucia, and is within walking distance of the Pigeon Island National Park, a forty four acre National Trust reserve. The island features ruins of many 18th century British and French military buildings including Fort Rodney. There is an Interpretation Centre, a restaurant featuring local cuisine, a historical themed pub and restaurant and lookout point at the top of the fort. The island is also the main venue of the annual St Lucia Jazz Festival, held each May, which attracts a host of international stars.
Rodney Bay, about 10 minutes drive or a ferry ride from Pigeon Point, is St Lucia’s busiest tourist area, with hotels, some of the best restaurants in St Lucia and bars, a shopping mall, banks, mini marts and a nearby supermarket (on the main road, called Super J) and lively nightlife. It has a busy marina and attracts over 200 boats for the annual ARC (trans-Atlantic Rally for Cruisers) which usually sees its first arrivals in early December. The nearby village of Gros Islet, to which you can walk, hosts the now famous Friday Night Jump Up, an all night street party. Castries the capital and George F L Charles Airport (formerly known as Vigie) which receives inter-island flights only, are within about 20 minutes drive. |

Useful Hints Ask your travel organiser or the management company (if booking direct) for initial food and drink supplies to be laid in for your arrival (a starter food pack costs approximately US$40 per person), so that the cook/housekeeper can then prepare a simple welcome meal should this be required. Thereafter, your housekeeper will be happy to assist you with your shopping should you wish to delegate this chore, however do expect to provide transportation and appropriate gratuity. Rental rates for villas in St Lucia do not include ‘tips’, about which you will find advice in the guest information book at the villa.
Personal laundry is not included in the rental rates and charges are approximately as follows: machine wash small load EC$10, hand wash small load EC$25 and ironing small load EC$25.
Although this is not St Lucia off the beaten path, the access road to Villa Jonson is fairly rough and bumpy, so a 4 wheel drive jeep is recommended when renting a car. |

Getting Around A hired car is strongly recommended for all St Lucia villas, unless you would prefer staff to call taxis for you as required. Do note that due to the rough access road, a 4 wheel drive jeep is recommended for Villa Jonson. A vehicle will be useful if you want to dine out at night or do lots of sightseeing and particularly when it comes to shopping for groceries. Book car hire via your travel organiser or direct with Drive-A-Matic (Tropical Villas will book this for you) or Cool Breeze Car & Jeep Rentals for your St Lucia car rental and ask for your vehicle to be delivered to the property approximately 3 hours after your scheduled time of arrival on St Lucia or the following morning. Vehicles can be returned at the airport or be collected from the property at a pre-arranged time on your departure day. |
