Hibiscus Lodge, a friendly, family-run hotel in Ocho Rios, sits on a cliff top a short walk from the town centre. As you arrive in its pretty gardens and pass through the foyer, you have no idea that suddenly the hotel will drop away before you. Hibiscus Lodge is set on a cliffside. The pool, bar (with seats hanging from the roof) and restaurant are set on multi-level platforms, interlinked with walkways and steps clinging to the rockface. At the foot of the cliffs is a sandy walled platform enabling you to swim right offshore. The (relatively simple) rooms are in blocks at the top of the cliff. The hotel restaurant, the Almond Tree, is well thought of, and meals are served on one of a number of sea view terraces. In a town with so many large and modern (often all-inclusive) hotels, Hibiscus Lodge has a modest but satisfying traditional style and hospitality about it.
