Description
Heronetta is an extremely elegant and luxurious home which has been beautifully furnished in keeping with its magnificent position as one of the very few beachfront properties on the Sandy Lane Beach. The fact that Heronetta presides over four acres of prime West Coast real estate makes it special even by Barbados standards. The landscaped gardens are lovingly tended and well maintained. They have a wonderful array of mature trees trailing with orchids, a variety of fruit trees and swathes of expansive lawns. Heronetta, which is not a small property, has a feeling of a small private estate and although it is located right on the edge of Holetown there is no sense of urban surroundings at all.

At the heart of Heronetta is the ultra elegant and very spacious living and formal dining room with its lofty ceiling. It is surrounded by tall fanlight doorways to both the beach side, leading to a new coral stone dining terrace and to an inner courtyard, which is used for cocktail parties or for serving breakfast. The room has been beautifully furnished in a restrained colonial style, with mahogany furnishings and cream upholstered sofas, with neutral tones as the main palette. For more casual dining there is a dining gazebo just next to the main living area, which has an interesting water feature for added interest. Both rooms lead out to the gardens, where the beach lies directly ahead. The sea is partially screened by fencing and tropical greenery for privacy. A wet bar off the main room services the inner courtyard and there is also a comfortable family room/study with TV, and a nearby powder room. Both have been given the Simon Foster treatment - Simon is a well known local fashion designer and interior decorator, who has done some very interesting special paint effects at Heronetta. These are on the walls and on various pieces of furniture and accessories such as lamp shades and soft furnishings.

Located away from the villa, in the middle of the extensive, beautifully landscaped gardens, is a very inviting and large swimming pool which has been dropped into the lawns, with a surrounding sun terrace. A well equipped poolside pavilion has a comfortable rattan seating, a wet bar and bathroom with shower, and is conveniently located next to the floodlit tennis court.

Heronetta has four, air-conditioned bedrooms. Two are in the main house; a yellow and cream themed twin room (beds convert to king) with a new en suite bathroom with marble shower (rain-head) and dressing area, and the gold themed, colonial style master bedroom. This has a king size bed (twins together), a dressing area in the hallway, and a new en suite tiled marble bathroom with tub/shower. The master gives onto the gardens. The other two bedrooms are located in separate guest cottages in the gardens opposite. One has a blue and sage colour scheme with framed botanical flower prints and double beds and is slightly larger than the bedrooms in the main house. It has an en suite marble bathroom with dressing area and tub/shower. The fourth bedroom has a sea shell theme and twin beds and its own semi-enclosed terrace, a dressing area leading to the en suite bathroom with hand painted walls and tiles and tub/shower. All bedrooms have satellite TV.

Beach & Swimming
Heronetta has a wonderful large swimming pool set into the lawns in the midst of the sprawling gardens. The pool is approximately 35ft by 20ft with depths of 5ft to 8-10ft, with two sets of entry steps and a ladder. The property is located directly on the beach with a 400ft frontage just south of Sandy Lane Hotel, accessed by a couple of gates, one of which leads directly onto the sand. There is good swimming to the north and south of the house, but not directly in front. Heronetta also has a cabana at the Sandy Lane Property Owners’ Beach Facility, which is about 5 minutes walk along the beach. Sunloungers are provided at the cabana. The swimming from Sandy Lane beach is some of the best on the island, however at certain times of the year there can be a swell with some undertow, so do make sure to look out for the red flags which warn against swimming.

Sports & Recreation
Heronetta has a private, floodlit tennis court. The nearest golf course is at Sandy Lane, and watersports are just a few minutes away by car, or 5 minutes walk along the beach.

Locality
Prime sea front location on the exclusive and world famous beach at Sandy Lane, just south of the actual hotel and very close to the golf course. Heronetta still has a beach cabana at the Sandy Lane Property Owners’ Beach Facility, next to the hotel to the north. This is the heart of St James, and the Platinum Coast and conveniently close the nearest shopping district, Holetown. Here you will find the Cave Shepherd Plaza and the larger West Coast Mall. These contain a supermarket, bank, photo centre, duty free shops, video rental, and various shops and boutiques. Also close by is the Chattel House Village, a series of traditional-looking Caribbean cabins selling souvenirs, the 24 hour Sandy Crest Medical Centre, and a market stall where you can buy fresh fruit and vegetables. The town also has a gas station (as petrol stations are known locally) which has an in-store mini-mart and an outlet of KFC, both open until late evening. Holetown, the place where the English first landed in 1625, later settling it in 1627, is also a local Barbadian community, with Police Station, Post Office, Parish Church, bank, pharmacy, clinic, fitness centre, school and so on.

There is a host of restaurants within 15 minutes drive along the main West Coast Road in either direction of Heronetta. You might consider the famous Cliff Restaurant, about eight minutes away to the south - also look out for Scarlet, Daphne’s and Calabaza in this direction. Heading north beyond Holetown you could try celeb favourite the Lone Star, about 15 minutes north, or the Fish Pot. There are any number of restaurants in Holetown itself, including The Mews, Café Indigo, Olive’s and The Tides as well as an excellent patisserie, Flindt’s and several pizza parlours, cafés, a beach bar and some fast food outlets. There is also good nightlife in Holetown with lively weekend gatherings in 1st and 2nd Street, where the restaurants and bars stand shoulder to shoulder, with some providing live music. Drinkers tend to spill out into the street to mingle, creating an easy-going ‘street party’ type of atmosphere. The current ‘hot spots’ are The Mews, The Elbow Room, Spago’s and Lexy’s.

Airport Meet & Greet
If you are booking direct ask the villa management company to send a taxi to meet you at the airport. Your airport transfers are paid for locally and take approximately 40 minutes. Alternatively, if you would prefer to be taken care of from the minute you arrive at the airport, with a range of services that can include limousine transfers, a Concierge Service is offered by
St James Travel & Tours.

If you are booking through a travel organiser, it is likely that their representative will be at the airport to meet you. This service and your return airport transfers should be included in the cost of your holiday. Please check at the time of booking.

Getting Around
Although most things are relatively close at hand and Holetown can easily be reached by public transport, a hired car is strongly recommended for all private villa holidays, unless you prefer staff to call taxis for you as required. A car will be useful if you want to dine out at night or do lots of sightseeing and particularly when it comes to shopping for groceries. Book car hire via your travel organiser or direct with
Stoutes Car Rentals and ask for your vehicle to be delivered to the property approximately three hours after your scheduled time of arrival on Barbados or the following morning. Vehicles can be returned at the airport or be collected from the property at a pre-arranged time on your departure day.
