Description
Eternity overlooks the beach from the grounds of the former Glitter Bay Hotel on Barbados’s famous West Coast. Behind it, the original Great House of the estate contains what was the hotel’s lounge, reception, gym and a small parade of shops. The surrounding gardens have been landscaped around a small coconut grove and feature a handsome water fountain, which looks wonderful when lit at night with the Great House in the background. A large free form pool with a separate children’s pool is set in between the rooms and restaurant, which looks out onto a lovely beach. The actual condominiums and hotel rooms are grouped in blocks of three to four storeys running from the beach down into the gardens. Eternity, which is number 201 is only one of three condominiums with full sea views which occupy the corner of the Allamanda block. They also have an extra balcony on the ocean side.

On reaching Eternity’s front door (via the stairs or a lift) on the first floor of the Allamanda building, you are greeted by a hand painted mural of a local green monkey, which hints at the recent changes in the interior decoration of the two-bedroom apartment. It now has a softer, more comfortable Caribbean style, with pale coral stone effect floor tiles in the main living area, coral stone coving to the glass sliding doors, pickled pine woodwork, whitewashed walls and soft pastel patterned seating. The main living area has a compact kitchen with breakfast bar, from where a door leads to the outside dining area. The living room has views of the sea through two large doorways with sliding glass panels (the room has air-conditioning if required, but also has a ceiling fan), which open onto the wrap-around balcony. A comfortable upholstered sofa and reading chair sport subtle pastel colour covers to match those on the outside. To one corner there is a Plasma TV with cable service and DVD. Finishing touches to the room are designed to reflect the seaside location - a large wall mirror with coral stone dolphins, coral stone umbrella stand decorated with shells and an alcove with a large sand dollar decorated in shells.

Eternity has a very open air feel to it as the wrap-around balcony merges with the main living area. The balcony has a low wall (small children need to be supervised) brimming with greenery and has built-in seating on two sides. The south facing section has rattan tables and chairs looking out to the restaurant and beach. Around the corner other built-in seating has direct views of the beach beyond - this sea facing side is the best spot for watching the sunset in private. Dining is also on this side. An attractive pickled pine table with a set of comfortable padded chairs seats four persons very easily.

There are two good size bedrooms, with the Master bedroom located to the rear of the main living area. It has a pink and very feminine theme, with pink fitted carpet and matching floral drapes, bed covers and padded headboard to the king size bed. Finishing touches include shell decorated mirrors over the bed and dressing tables, and a shell and sea fan collage. Leading off the main living area, the second bedroom faces south and has access to the main balcony through glass sliding doors. This room has twin beds pushed together and has been decorated with a more tropical flair, with a cream coloured fabric depicting tropical fruits to the bed and drapes, and original artwork by local artists Corrie Scott and Pierre Nigel. Both bedrooms are air-conditioned and have ceiling fans, plus both bathrooms have wall mounted hairdryers. A pretty blue tiled bathroom, with tub/shower (the other bathroom has shower only), leads off the hall just next to the Master bedroom.

Note: The former Fairmont Glitter Bay was sold in July 2004 and as a resort is now closed. The property is now known as Glitter Bay Estate and re-opened in December 2005 as a private residential condominium development. Almost all of the facilities and amenities relating to the former hotel operation are now closed, however some facilities have been taken over by the Estate, whose management now provides services for guests staying in the private apartments. Services include a concierge desk, WiFi, children's activity area, central swimming pool and children's wading pool, beach and pool towels, loungers and umbrellas and tennis courts. A beach bar and grill opens subject to occupancy. The piano lounge bar, boutiques and other amenities within the Great House will not be reinstated. The old beach house that was built by the Cunard family (divided into a number of suites when Glitter Bay was a hotel) also reverted to private ownership. This has now been demolished and a new property has been constructed. While the expansion of Glitter Bay Estate is currently on hold, the estate closed for six months during summer 2008 in order to install new elevators, a new water system, new roofs, a new air-conditioned gym and refurbish the beach bar which now has cable TV.

Beach & Swimming
There is excellent swimming from the stretch of beach directly in front of the property, just beyond Eternity’s balcony. Guests can also use the estate’s large free form swimming pool, which also has a separate children’s pool. Beach towels, beach chairs, umbrellas and tables are provided for guests use.

Sports & Recreation
There are two floodlit tennis courts for guests use (free of charge during the day), an air-conditioned gym and a variety of watersports from the beach can be arranged. The nearest golf course is Royal Westmoreland, which is about 5 minutes drive away and has some tee times open to outsiders in the mid morning. Otherwise there are two courses open to the public at Sandy Lane about 10 minutes away.

Locality
Eternity is located within the grounds of the former Fairmont Glitter Bay Hotel, with Fairmont Royal Pavilion located next door, and which continues to operate as a hotel under Fairmont. They are about 5 minutes’ drive north of Holetown. There are one or two local shops and rum shops along the route, however Holetown is the main shopping area nearby. There are two shopping centres, the smaller Cave Shepherd Plaza which is closer to Sandy Lane (heading south), and then the larger West Coast Mall in Holetown itself. Here you will find a large supermarket, bank, photo centre, duty free shops, video rental, and various shops and boutiques, and next door a large gas station (as petrol stations are known locally) with a mini mart and fast food outlet. Also close by is the Chattel House Village, a series of traditional looking Caribbean cabins selling souvenirs, the 24 hour Sandy Crest Medical Centre, and a market stall where you can buy fresh fruit and vegetables. In the midst of Holetown, which was where the English first landed in 1625 and came back in 1627 to settle, there is just about everything you would expect to find in a small community - Police Station, Post Office, Parish Church, bank, pharmacy, clinic, fitness centre, school and so on.

There is a host of restaurants within a 10-15 minute drive in either direction on the main West Coast (Highway 1) road. You might consider the famous Cliff Restaurant, about fifteen minutes away to the south - also look out for Scarlet, Daphne’s and Calabaza in this direction. Heading north you could try celeb favourite the Lone Star, about 5 minutes north, or the Fish Pot. There are any number of restaurants in Holetown itself, including The Mews, Café Indigo, Olive’s and The Tides as well as an excellent patisserie, Flindt’s and several pizza parlours, cafés, a beach bar and some fast food outlets. There is also good nightlife in Holetown with lively weekend gatherings in 1st and 2nd Street, where the restaurants and bars stand shoulder to shoulder, with some providing live music. Drinkers tend to spill out into the street to mingle, creating an easy-going ‘street party’ type of atmosphere. The current ‘hot spots’ are The Mews, The Elbow Room, Spago’s and Lexy’s.

Airport Meet & Greet
If you are booking direct ask the villa management company to send a taxi to meet you at the airport. Your airport transfers take approximately 45 minutes and should be paid for in advance with the final payment for your villa. Alternatively, if you would prefer to be taken care of from the minute you arrive at the airport, with a range of services that can include limousine transfers, a Concierge Service is offered by
St James Travel & Tours.

If you are booking through a travel organiser, it is likely that their representative will be at the airport to meet you. This service and your return airport transfers should be included in the cost of your holiday. Please check at the time of booking.

Getting Around
Although you are in a resort style setting and Holetown is relatively close by, a hired car is strongly recommended for all private villa holidays. A car will be useful if you want to dine out at night or do lots of sightseeing, and particularly when it comes to shopping for groceries, unless you prefer to use taxis. Book car hire via your travel organiser or direct with
Stoutes Car Rentals and ask for your vehicle(s) to be delivered to the property approximately 3 hours after your scheduled time of arrival on Barbados or the following morning. Vehicles can be returned at the airport or be collected from the property at a pre-arranged time on your departure day.
