Cap Maison is a small luxury Caribbean resort which opened in St Lucia during summer 2008. It is set on a low cliffside in the Cap Estate in the far north of the island and has a lovely view over the Caribbean Sea and Pigeon Point. The 22 one, two and three bedroom apartment suites (many with private plunge pools, others with jacuzzis), have been built in a modern and very comfortable ‘hacienda’ style, with courtyards, fountains, runs of rounded arches and everywhere sprays of bougainvillea to splash them with colour. Central facilities will include a spa, gym, a bar and a cliffside restaurant with a lovely sunset view. Smuggler’s Cove, one of St Lucia’s loveliest beaches, is right next door. As an apartment hotel with around 50 large bedrooms and suites, Cap Maison will have a very informal feel.

The apartments at Cap Maison are currently selling fast - the hotel, which was officially opened in July 2008 when it welcomed new owners as the first guests and is now accepting regular bookings for the forthcoming season. This review has been written according to a study of plans and a visit to the site early in the hotel’s construction. See our Review of
Cap Maison Real Estate.

Beach & Swimming
Cap Maison is situated right above Smugglers’ Cove, one of the loveliest beaches in this area of St Lucia. It is a small, steep-sided bay with mid-coloured sand and it is quite hidden away, so often there will be only hotel guests there – though it is quite a popular beach with the St Lucians themselves over the weekends. The swimming and snorkelling are good and there is a bar in the bay.

Cap Maison has a central pool set in the gardens between the villas and the clifftop restaurant. It is free-form in shape and it is surrounded by decks with loungers. Several of the oceanview villas have their own plunge pools and others have a rooftop Jacuzzi.

Locality
Cap Maison is located in the Cap Estate, at the very far northern tip of St Lucia. The ‘Cap’, as it is known, is a wealthy district of private homes and villas, set on the steep hillsides that overlook a golf course and the sea.

Just a few minutes south by car, as you leave the Cap Estate, you will come to the heartland of tourism in St Lucia, Rodney Bay. First you pass the turn to Pigeon Point, which has interesting old military fortifications and a nice beach bar, Jambe de Bois. Back on the main road you come to Gros Islet, which is famous for its Friday night Jump up, and then the marinas and yacht services. Next is the turning to Rodney Bay, the liveliest area of St Lucia, with a strip of bars and restaurants and then the finest beach on the island (in the classic Caribbean sense of palm-backed white sand). If you are looking for night-time action then this is the place to come. Beyond here, about twenty minutes drive from the hotel is the island capital Castries, a small and quite lively West Indian town set on a magnificent harbour.

Restaurants worth visiting in the area include Tao at LeSport, Buzz and the Charthouse in Rodney Bay and the Coal Pot in Vigie Marina in Castries.

Meet & Greet
If you are travelling independently, taxis are usually available at the airport, but one can be arranged for you by the hotel at your expense.
It is worth putting in the request at the time of booking. If you are flying into Hewanorra in the south of St Lucia then the ride from the airport is around eighty or ninety minutes, depending on the traffic around Castries. If you have an option, it is better to fly into George FL Charles Airport at Vigie near Castries, about twenty minutes ride away. Alternatively, if you would prefer to be taken care of from the minute you arrive at the airport, a Concierge Service that can include a helicopter or limousine transfer is offered by
St Lucia Representatives.

If you are booking through a travel organiser, it is likely that their representative will be at the airport to meet you. This service and your return airport transfers should be included in the cost of your holiday.
Please check at the time of booking.

Getting Around
Hiring a car to explore the island is easily arranged. If you are not travelling in peak season and you don't think you will want a car for more than a day or two, hotel reception will be able to assist you. Otherwise, we recommend you book in advance via your travel organiser or direct with
Drive-A-Matic or Cool Breeze Car/Jeep Rental, who will deliver to the property and issue your St Lucian driving licence, price EC$54. Vehicles can be returned at the airport or be collected from the property at a pre-arranged time on your departure day.

Be aware that around the Jazz Festival in May and around Christmas there can be a shortage of cars in St Lucia, so you are advised to book well in advance. Also book early if you want one for a week or more because the pre-booked rates can be better. Taxis are readily available through the reception at the hotel, through drivers who remain on property. No public bus service runs near to Cap Maison, so that is not really a convenient option.
