Bamboo Walk Hotel is a quiet, clean and comfortable Tobago inn set on the Old Milford Road in Lowlands near the western end of Tobago. The small hotel (once the Hampden Inn) has been taken on by Patrick Dankou of Yes Tourism (their offices are now on site), who opened its doors in late 2008. It is within walking distance of a long stretch of beach on Little Rockley Bay and beyond that Petit Trou Bay, whose mangroves skirt the Tobago Plantations estate and golf course. Bamboo Walk has just 12 superior and standard rooms set in low-rise cottages around a small swimming pool and lawns dotted with palms and shrubs. There is a cosy open-air, thatched restaurant and bar, the Surf’n’Turf, which sees a lively ‘lime’ on Friday nights, when there is a barbecue and entertainment. Bamboo Walk has a pleasant, low key atmosphere and is a good find for cheap hotels in Tobago.

Beach & Swimming Bamboo Walk Hotel is within walking distance of Little Rockley Bay and its 5000ft stretch of sandy beach known as Lowlands. The swimming conditions are varied, but the area is popular with walkers and especially with kitesurfers because of the wind. This particular stretch of beach ends at the VHL Tobago Golf & Spa Resort (former Tobago Hilton) which has been closed since late 2008 for re-construction. It is part of the Tobago Plantations estate. |

Locality Bamboo Walk Hotel lies on Old Milford Road, off the Claude Noel Highway, so many of the things that Tobago offers are within easy reach. Scarborough the capital is less than ten minutes away by car. Across the road lies Tobago Plantations Beach & Golf Resort, a former sugar and coconut plantation that has been developed into a first class residential community of villas and apartments. It includes an extremely well maintained 18 hole PGA golf course with club house and restaurant and a dive centre. Its 200 room VHL Tobago Golf & Spa Resort (former Tobago Hilton) is currently closed for re-construction. Natural features have been retained, such as the mangroves (through which there is a series of boardwalks for nature lovers) and the two freshwater lakes, which attract both some interesting bird life a couple of large caymans (alligators).
Not far off are Store Bay, a beach with some facilities and the departure point for many of the trips to Buccoo Reef, and a few minutes farther Pigeon Point, the island’s main beach on which there are bars and watersports. There are plenty of restaurants to visit within a few minutes of the hotel, many on Shirvan Road, try Melange, and in Stonehaven Bay, were you will find the Seahorse Inn, which has a lovely setting on a terrace surrounded by palms. |

Getting Around It is well worth exploring Tobago while you are there, particularly the forested north east end of the island, which is quite far but very rewarding. Car hire is easily arranged and if you are not travelling in peak season and you don't think you will want a car for more than a day or two, hotel reception will be able to assist you. Otherwise, we recommend you book in advance via your travel organiser or direct with Thrifty Car Rentals, who will deliver to the property. Vehicles can be returned at the airport or be collected from the property at a pre-arranged time on your departure day.
Be aware that at the height of the season there can be a shortage of cars so make sure to book it early. Also book early if you want a car for a week or more because the pre-booked rates can be better. It’s worth noting that an extensive and cheap network of share taxis operates between Crown Point and Scarborough. |
