Virgin Gorda Villa Rentals is a villa rental company based in Leverick Bay in the north of Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands. It rents out around forty private villas in two different areas of the island, first around Mahoe Bay, a nice stretch of sand to the north of Spanish Town, and second at Leverick Bay, a livelier area, popular with yachtsmen, on the North Sound. The company also manages the villas it rents out and has a number of other businesses under its wing, including the hotel and a marina at Leverick Bay.
As the name suggests though, the company is primarily a villa rental agency. It markets the villas, takes bookings and looks after visitors when they arrive and during their holiday. And when they are not occupied, it tends to the maintenance and staffing of the villas. The two areas in which it oversees its villas are quite distinct. Mahoe Bay is a half-mile curve of very nice sand set in a relatively isolated bay. There are about twenty villas there (fifteen of which are for rent) with a central tennis court and an office from which the housekeeping and maintenance is managed. Some of the best villas in the BVI for rental are located here and they offer an ideal beachfront holiday. Leverick Bay has a rather different feel. It is generally more ‘active’ and there is sometimes a lively crowd around the marina. Here the houses stand on a steep hillside above the bay. The higher the setting the finer the view of the North Sound, a fantastic stretch of shallow water surrounded by islands. Over 20 of the total 50 villas in Leverick Bay are for rent by the company.
A key part of villa life in Leverick Bay is the small hotel set right on the waterfront, the Leverick Bay Resort and Marina. The facilities on the waterfront can be used by villa guests. Next to the reception (which the villa rental and management company shares with the hotel), you will find a small complex with a number of shops. These include a dive shop, an internet café, a small supermarket in which you can provision or villa and a spa that can offer treatments to your villa. There is a restaurant upstairs (The Restaurant at Leverick Bay) and a beach bar (Jumbie’s) on the small beach. You will also find a pool, which people using the beach bar can use. Finally there is the marina with several docks, where you will find all the usual facilities for the many yachts passing through the area (you can get water, fuel and ice etc). There are also watersports (small sailing boats, windsurfers and kayaks) and you can arrange day sails. The marina can be important to your experience of Leverick Bay, too. The sailors in the bay add to the atmosphere, particularly on a Friday night when there is a lively ‘jump up’.
Virgin Gorda Villa Rentals has around 40 villas in all across the two areas. These vary in size between two and six bedrooms and (particularly in Leverick Bay) they vary in character too. Most have been built relatively recently, but some use their settings particularly well (on the beachfront or cleverly built on a ridgeline for example), or they have a particular style in their design. In addition to renting the villas out, the company also manages them (and others that are not for rent), arranging and paying the staff, making any repairs, cleaning the pools and tending the gardens. Finally there is a construction arm to the company (which was responsible for building most the villas in the first place).
Virgin Gorda Villa Rentals is owned by Chris Yates, an Englishwoman who came to the island in 1967 (when there was virtually nothing in Virgin Gorda). In 1989 she formed the company. She bought land in Mahoe Bay and sold plots to clients for development – and then built the private villas for them. After that most of the owners came back and asked her to manage their houses, often putting them up for holiday rental. Virgin Gorda Villa Rentals is managed by Monica Willis. There are about 60 staff altogether over the three sections of the company. |

Services - Villa management
Virgin Gorda Villa Rentals oversees the rental of the properties and is in touch with guests while they are staying, but they also see to the general smooth running of the property on behalf of their owners, who usually live off island. They clean the pool and gardens, make sure the maintenance is kept up to date and pay the staff, bills and taxes. They manage all the villas in their rental list and a number of others that are not available for rent.
- Reservations
The company works with overseas agents and clients booking direct from abroad to ensure that guests end up in a property that suit their particular needs. They will also make all the necessary arrangements prior to arrival, including meet and greet on arrival in Virgin Gorda (see below for the various options), provisioning the villa with groceries and attending to any special requests.
- Grocery Povisioning Services
Virgin Gorda Villa Rentals is happy to provision your villa with basic needs for your arrival. If you wish to extend the service, and have your villa stocked with more than just the basics, then it will fall within their concierge service.
There is a shop right in Leverick Bay, the Chef’s Pantry, with a good range of groceries including fresh seafood, specialty meats and cheeses, fresh baked breads and pastries, coffees, fine wines and spirits. They will also provide a pre-order service. |

Staff Staffing in BVI villas is generally pretty low key, though villas rented by Virgin Gorda Villa Rentals have the advantage of the 60 or so staff that work across all the different companies. They include housekeepers, pool and maintenance men and some management staff. You can expect maid service each day except Sundays for a couple of hours in the mornings.
Virgin Gorda Villa Rentals have chefs on their books if you wish and babysitters.
Staff gratuities are not included in the 12% service charge on the rental rates. You should therefore tip your staff directly, according to the level of service provided. |

Meet & Greet For Villas in Leverick Bay
If you arrive directly at Leverick Bay (for example off the North Sound Express, which is probably the best route if you come into the BVI’s main airport on Beef Island), you will be met by on the dock by a staff member from Virgin Gorda Villa Rentals. You will check in at the office and from there you will be taken to your villa and settled in. The Virgin Gorda Villa Rentals staff member will give you a general briefing on the villa and on the general area.
If you arrive at the south of the island, either at Virgin Gorda Airport or at the Spanish Town ferry terminal, then you should take a taxi to the reception of the Leverick Bay Resort - or you may wish to pick up a car on arrival and make your own way up to the resort. If you arrive after office hours then you can collect your keys at the restaurant.
For Villas in Mahoe Bay
If you let them know your arrival time beforehand then you will be met by the Virgin Gorda Villa Rentals General Assistant at your arrival point (you should head for ferry dock in Spanish Town or the airport). If you are hiring a car as most people do, then they suggest that you arrange to have it delivered to your arrival point, after which you will follow the General Assistant to the villa. They will then settle you in and give you a general briefing on the area. |

Check In/Check Out Unless you make specific alternative arrangements at the time of booking, the check out time you’re your villa is at 10am. The earliest check-in time for arrivals is 4 pm. This is not usually an issue because of the travel time to Virgin Gorda (you are pretty unlikely to arrive before 4pm, if you are travelling from outside the Caribbean), but if your arrival on island is earlier, please make sure that you tell your travel organiser or Virgin Gorda Villa Rentals so that suitable arrangements can be put in place. |
