KEY FEATURES...
A small and friendly St Kitts and Nevis specialist with a knowledgeable staff, offering personal service and carefully selected accommodation in all price ranges.

CLIENT PROFILE...
A wide range of travellers from all age groups and backgrounds, some repeats from other Caribbean destinations

Just St Kitts & Nevis is a young company, but one with a pedigree within the Caribbean travel industry. It comes from the same stable as two other companies, Just Grenada and Just Tobago, and builds on their experience of working to the Caribbean. The three companies have chosen a different formula from most other Caribbean tour operators. Rather than offering the same breadth, with often the same accommodation in the same destinations as the others, it has chosen to specialise in depth in just a handful of islands. Just St Kitts & Nevis’s portfolio offers the best of that the two islands have to offer independent travellers in all styles of accommodation – including the plantation house hotels - and in all price categories

The team covering the four Caribbean islands is small but between them they have a wealth of knowledge and plenty of experience in dealing with the area. And their knowledge is not just about the places to stay (though many staff have personally stayed in each property, which makes them uniquely qualified to give advice and to make sure it is the right place for your needs). They also know about the island attractions and the islanders themselves. Given that St Kitts or Nevis is right for you, Just St Kitts & Nevis is ideally qualified to put together your trip.

St Kitts and Nevis are different from the other islands in the region, and they both have their distinctive character, so it is important to have the background knowledge to help you select the right island for you. They are small by comparison to Barbados or even Antigua. They are less developed and retain a sort of innocence. In fact Nevis is almost supernaturally charming, as slow and gentle as the whole of the Caribbean was fifty years ago. Perhaps its most distinctive characteristic (and one which St Kitts shares to an extent) is its plantation house hotels, which are a little unexpected for the Caribbean, but which are some of the loveliest places to stay in the whole region. As small hotels, they are not that well known beyond the Caribbean (and often are not featured in tour operators' brochures especially the larger operators), but they retain the elegance and graciousness of old Caribbean hospitality. The island of St Kitts offers a slightly rawer, more natural Caribbean experience and it has more mid-range tourism, with a number of traditional beach-based hotels as well as a couple of more rarified properties inland. Between them, St Kitts and Nevis have something for almost everyone. Finally, the two islands are separated by just a seven minute flight or ten minutes across the Narrows on a speed boat (or 45 on the inter-island ferry), and so they can make a very easy two-centre holiday.

In such a small office (there are six sales staff covering the four islands), information can be passed around. The staff make regular visits and keep in contact with people on the island and with their returning guests (many of whom visit the other islands on the recommendation of the staff). Just St Kitts & Nevis do not usually sell packages straight from a brochure, so they can tailor-make suggestions to fit you to the ideal hotel. And if you come to them with an idea which they feel is inappropriate for you then they will let you know and make an alternative suggestion. Their knowledge of the islands can also help you get the best out of St Kitts and Nevis when you are there. They are also able to provide add-ons, such as a day trip to the other island, where you will be picked up from the ferry for a trip to the rainforest or a visit to one of the Caribbean’s most impressive forts.

Started in late 2005, Just St Kitts & Nevis is a very young company. It was established as the third Caribbean destination of Planos Holidays group (set up in 1988), which already ran a programme to Paxos in the Greek Islands and to Spain (Spain at Heart, formed in 1994). The companies were set up by Gerry Copsey, who is Chairman and Managing Director. Copsey first visited the Caribbean in 1998, when he went on holiday with his (later) wife Janet in Grenada. They loved the island so much that started Just Grenada the following year and in 2000 they married there. The company made its first expansion within the Caribbean, to Tobago, in 2002 and then looked to Eastern Europe (Just Slovenia) before returning to the Caribbean. Please see our reviews of
Just Grenada and Just Tobago.

Before working in travel Copsey had had a varied career in the restoration of Georgian buildings in Bath, as an undertaker and hospital porter, he chuckles, ‘Oh, and playing the piano in the local pub’. The three companies are based in the delightful historic Somerset village of Mells and work from beautiful offices in converted farm buildings in the heart of the village. The only retail outlet in the village is the Post Office stores which is like something from a period movie as the bearded postmaster moves between the airmail stickers and the organic veg with consummate ease. Ducks, geese and cows pass by the office windows and all the company staff meet regularly in the village pub – the Talbot, a famous 16th century coaching inn.

Service
The quality of the advice and suggestions is really the best thing that a tour operator can offer as you plan your holiday. Of course the correct recommendation of where to stay is the single most important element in the equation, but Just St Kitts & Nevis can also fill you in on the character of the two islands and make suggestions of things to do while you are there.

And when you arrive in St Kitts and Nevis the company is able to help you make the best of your time on island. They provide a restaurant guide (with details of dishes and prices), a supermarket guide to help those catering for themselves and an island guide with ideas of the best things to do (and the best time of day or day of the week to do them, so that you can avoid the crowds). This includes details of things that the two islands do particularly well, for instance hiking, nature and beach bars, as well as things to do on a day trip to the other ‘sister’ island.

They also offer an informal concierge service. If you have a request, say a bunch of flowers, or a special anniversary dinner or a surprise for a birthday, then they can arrange it for you. They can also help to arrange weddings, see Tailor Made below. Finally if you have a particular interest, say ornithology or nature (which both islands do extremely well), then they can make sure to put you in touch with people who are experts in their field.

While you are on island, the day to day management of your holiday is given over to Just St Kitts & Nevis’s local agents who are on hand to help for the duration of your trip, with any arrangements or advice. On arrival at Golden Rock (St Kitts) or Newcastle Airport (Nevis), or at the various ferry points, Tropical Tours will transfer you to your hotel by private vehicle. They will settle you in and then check back to see if there is anything that you would like to be arranged. They will also return you to the airport at the end of your holiday.

Brochure & Website
Just St Kitts & Nevis has a relatively simple and slim brochure giving details of the hotels and extra services that they offer on the island. They also have a website which carries more up-to-date information and the latest deals, but it is key to their strategy that the brochure and website are intended primarily to encourage travellers to ring their office so that they can discuss their ideas. Just St Kitts & Nevis’s policy is to talk to every traveller before they make a booking. They do not take bookings on-line.

Tailor Made Holidays
Just St Kitts & Nevis is not restricted to standard packages from their brochure. In fact most of their holidays are tailored to the individual couple in some form. Two centre holidays between the two islands are already proving quite popular, either in two different plantation houses or mixing time on the beach with the plantation hotel experience.

The islands are not particularly suited to Caribbean family holidays, but there is a handful of good hotels that will look after children well.

If you wish to have a Caribbean wedding in the islands then this is possible too. Just St Kitts & Nevis is happy to liaise with the relevant people on island and their local ‘ground handler’ to make sure that you have exactly the day that you would like. They can respond to particular requests if you have ideas or make suggestions.
