Just Grenada is a young and energetic company that has chosen a different formula from other Caribbean tour operators. Rather than offering the same breadth, with the same accommodation in the same destinations as the others, the company has chosen to specialise in depth in just a small handful of islands, Grenada, Tobago and the sister islands of St Kitts and Nevis (under the banners Just Tobago and Just St Kitts & Nevis). They know the islands extremely well and offer the best of the island in all styles of accommodation and in all price categories.
The team covering the islands is small but between them they have a wealth of knowledge about Grenada, more than any other tour operator. And their knowledge is not just about the places to stay (though the staff have personally stayed in each property, which makes them uniquely qualified to give advice and to make sure it is the right place for your needs), but also about the Grenadian people and the island’s attractions. Given that Grenada is right for you, Just Grenada is ideally qualified to put together an ideal trip for you.
It might be important to know that Grenada does not have the cachet and levels of luxury of, say, Barbados, or even the well projected mass appeal of St Lucia. Instead it offers a more natural charm. And perhaps its most distinctive characteristic is that it has a handful of delightful small and independent hotels with very strong West Indian character that most islands do not have. Most of these are too small to be widely known beyond the Caribbean (or in most tour operator brochures), but for the right traveller they offer the perfect Caribbean experience. There is something in every price too – Just Grenada competes well on price, generally – and of course the company has a couple of top of the range luxury hotels, some nice family hotels and a handful of good private villas.
In such a small office (there are six sales staff at Just Grenada and Just Tobago) the information they collect can be passed around. The staff make regular visits and keep in contact with people on the island and with their returning guests (many of whom revisit the island again and again). Just Grenada do not usually sell packages straight from a brochure, so they can tailor-make suggestions to fit you to the ideal hotel or villa. And if you come to them with an idea which they feel is inappropriate for you then they will let you know and make an alternative suggestion. Their knowledge of the island can also help you get the best out of Grenada when you are there. And they will help you with any special requests. Finally they are able to provide other add-ons, such as a week on a yacht or arrange a wedding for you, see below.
Just Grenada is a relatively young company. It was established in 1998 as a new division of the Planos Holidays group (set up in 1988), which already ran a programme to Paxos in the Greek Islands and to Spain (Spain at Heart, formed in 1994). The companies were set up by Gerry Copsey, who is Chairman and Managing Director. Before working in travel Copsey had had a varied career in the restoration of Georgian buildings in Bath, as an undertaker and hospital porter, he chuckles, ‘Oh, and playing the piano in the local pub’.
Copsey first visited Grenada on holiday in 1998 with his (later) wife Janet and fell in love with the island on the spot. Janet and Gerry started Just Grenada the following year and in 2000 they were married on one of the island’s most beautiful beaches. Their love for the island has grown over the years and they have now built an excellent team around them, all of whom are regular visitors to the island. The efforts of Gerry Copsey were recognised by the Prime Minister of Grenada in 2004 when as part of the 30th Anniversary of Independence celebrations Gerry was presented with a special award for services to tourism.
The company has made just two expansions within the Caribbean. In 2002 they set up Just Tobago and in late 2005 they started Just St Kitts & Nevis. While Tobago has a similar charm and lack of development to Grenada, St Kitts and Nevis are much smaller islands and have a very different atmosphere. They are also very different from one another. Please see our reviews of Just Tobago and Just St Kitts & Nevis.
Just Grenada is based in the delightful historic Somerset village of Mells and works from beautiful offices in converted farm buildings in the heart of the village. The only retail outlet in the village is the Post Office stores which is like something from a period movie as the bearded postmaster moves between the airmail stickers and the organic veg with consummate ease. Ducks, geese and cows pass by the office windows and all the company staff meet regularly in the village pub – the Talbot, a famous 16th century coaching inn. |

Service The quality of the advice and suggestions is really the best thing that a tour operator can offer while you plan your holiday. Of course the correct recommendation of where to stay is the single most important element in the equation, but Just Grenada can also fill you in on the character of the island and make suggestions of things to do.
And when you reach the island Just Grenada is able to help you make the best of your time there. They provide a restaurant guide (with details of dishes and prices), a supermarket guide to help those catering for themselves and an island guide giving ideas for the best things to do (and the best time of day or day of the week to do them so that you avoid the crowds). This includes details of things that Grenada does particularly well, for instance hiking, gardens, beach bars and sailing for example, and of tours to some other islands nearby.
They also offer an informal concierge service. If you have a request, say a bunch of flowers, or a special dinner or a surprise for a birthday, then they can arrange it for you. They can also arrange weddings, see below. Finally if you have a particular interest, say gardens or ornithology, then they can make sure to put you in touch with people who are experts in their field.
While you are on island, the day to day management of your holiday is given over to Just Grenada’s local agents, Caribbean Horizons, who are on hand to help for the duration of your trip, with any arrangements or advice. On arrival at Point Salines in Grenada Caribbean Horizons will transfer you to your hotel by private minibus. They will settle you in and then visit you then next day to see if there is anything that you would like to be arranged. They will also return you to the airport at the end of your holiday. |

Brochure & Website Just Grenada has a relatively simple and necessarily slim brochure giving details of the hotels and villas and extra services that they offer on the island. They also have a website which carries more up-to-date information and some deals, but it is key to their strategy that the brochure and website are intended primarily to encourage travellers to ring their office so that they can discuss their ideas. Just Grenada’s policy is to talk to every traveller before they make a booking. They do not take bookings on-line. |

Ship and Shore Holidays Set at the foot of the Windward Island chain, Grenada is ideally positioned and has the facilities for a stay-sail holiday (Just Grenada’s Ship ‘n Shore holiday). Their 14 day trip includes a week on land and then a 7 day/6 night cruise aboard a skippered yacht through the Grenadines, which are some of the loveliest and least developed islands in the Caribbean. As you sail you will find deserted islands with excellent snorkelling, remote beaches and fantastic blue seas, simple bars and occasionally more sophisticated restaurants on the waterfront. Oh and excellent sailing of course. |
| ^ back to top |
Tailor Made Holidays Just Grenada are not restricted to standard packages from their brochure. In fact most of their holidays are tailored to the individual couple in some form. Often they will arrange for a couple to spend time in more than one hotel (a quiet one to begin with followed by somewhere a little livelier). |

Weddings No-one knows better than the owners of the company Gerry & Janet Copsey about weddings and honeymoons in Grenada. They were married on the island themselves. Liaising with their on-island representatives, Caribbean Horizons, they can put together anything that you require. This might be a beach wedding in the afternoon, followed by a short sunset cruise for the bride and groom with a bottle of champagne, before returning to a waterfront dinner for two. They can make all the background arrangements for you – legal requirements, arranging the minister, preparation of the venue, catering, photographers, transport and accommodation for your guests and for you of course. |

Family Holidays Just Grenada can recommend a number of places to stay in Grenada that have facilities for family travel and they can provide background advice for you. Children will be well looked after on the island. Just Grenada can also arrange other facilities for you such as baby-sitters. |
