The Villas of LeSport are a collection of 25 two-bedroom villas currently under construction in the Cap Estate in the far north of St Lucia. They stand on the hillside above the hotel, the BodyHoliday at LeSport and despite their different style (the hotel has mainly rooms and suites) they are included in the inventory of the hotel.

There are three different types of villa on the plan, which are built to very high specification and are extremely comfortable. Each type of house has some outside space and a pool. All villas have full kitchens and are air-conditioned but can also be opened up to allow a natural flow of air. The Great Houses and Luxury Oases also have outdoor showers.

Pavilions are set over two storeys in detached buildings. They have a living room and one bedroom downstairs and a large suite upstairs with a private bathroom and a Jacuzzi tub. The two levels can be accessed separately, but inside they are also connected by a spiral staircase. They measure around 3000 square feet in all. Great Houses are also laid out over two floors, which can also be accessed separately. They cover around 4000 square feet including outside space. The two bedrooms are on the upper level and the large living space is downstairs. There is a veranda and a large infinity pool outside. Just two of the Luxury Oases are being built. Laid out over one single storey, they are the largest and most comfortable of the villas and have a surface area of just under 4000 square feet. You approach through a courtyard, which passes into the open-plan living space of the villa. Either side of the courtyard is a wing containing the bedrooms and their en suite bathrooms. Each bedroom has its own infinity pool and at the front is a gazebo with a bar so you can enjoy the view over the sea and to Martinique.

Architecturally there is a strong plantation theme to the villas, with traditional style – shingle roofs, flattened arches and verandas with criss-cross balustrades. But of course it has been brought to modern levels of comfort. Inside, the traditional theme continues with tray ceilings and polished wooden floors and hardwood reproduction antique furniture including armoires and four poster beds. There are four colour schemes on offer for the soft fabrics and wall decorations.

The development work at the Villas of LeSport is being carried out by Caribbean architects Lane Pettigrew, who have done a great deal of work in St Lucia over the years. They are also working on the Villas at Jalousie Plantation at the Jalousie Plantation Hotel in the south of the island, which have some of the loveliest views in the Caribbean, covering the sea horizon and the magnificent Petit Piton which soars more than two thousand feet above the resort. See a Review of
The Villas of Jalousie Plantation.

By late 2007 about half of the villas had been sold. The infrastructure for the development was in place (roads and electricity) and the foundations of the villas themselves had begun. Villas cost from US$850,000 for a Pavilion up to US$1,600,000 for a Luxury Oasis. They are bought freehold with a rental pool agreement in which you have the right to stay (using all the facilities of the hotel) for six weeks during the year. There are no restrictions on when you stay, but if it is in the high season then you can expect the return on the rest of the time to be reduced. In the time that you are not in residence, the villa is returned to the rental pool of the hotel.

Currency Transactions
When buying property abroad, it pays to consider carefully the method of transferring the money. Do not assume your bank will provide the best rates or the best service when it comes to large currency transactions. By exchanging currency at commercial exchange rates it may be possible to save a significant amount. At DefinitiveCaribbean we have a good broker to recommend.

Currency brokers HIFX plc are based in Windsor in the UK, but they also have offices in San Francisco, Australia, New Zealand and Spain. Regardless of where you live, they are happy to assist you and – with their extremely competitive exchange rates - they should save you money on your currency transfer.

The price of Caribbean property is almost always quoted in US Dollars. However with floating exchange rates, the cost to you (in, say pounds or Canadian Dollars) will continue to change as the rate fluctuates between exchange and completion. HIFX can help you to fix the exchange rate, even if you don't have all the funds available up front. You should speak to their dealers to discuss this. On single transfers they have a minimum of £5000 or equivalent in another currency, but they have a facility for regular payments abroad, which works well in the case of a foreign mortgage or a pension transfer. This is via direct debit from your UK bank and carries no transfer fees.

HIFX consultants are consistently friendly and offer a good personal service to private clients and major corporate clients alike. Whether you are the Royal Mail or Mrs Jones from Devon, the company says, its job is to save you money and to keep the transfer process as simple as possible.

To read more about HIFX please use the banner below to link to their website, which also gives access to the online currency converter (there are just a few fields to complete before you gain access).

Alternatively, HIFX have assigned a dedicated broker to help customers that come via Definitive Caribbean. Her name is Polly Summers, you may reach her by email here. Just mention our name to get the best service. If you live in the UK you may also contact her on a dedicated number at 0845 3705227.
