Review
Apex/Avis Car Rental is a friendly and efficient car hire company based on the island of Anguilla in the North-eastern Caribbean. It has a fleet of around 65 vehicles. The majority are cars, in a range of categories, but there are also Jeeps and a handful of minibuses.
The company is part of Apex Auto Supplies, which deals in vehicles and spare parts on Anguilla. The car rental office and the workshop are located together in The Valley, in an area called The Quarter (turn south-east at the traffic lights in the centre of town and it will appear shortly on your left). This said, you may not need to visit the office because (with a couple of exceptions, see Delivery below) Avis is happy to deliver a car to you.
They will go through the paperwork at your location and they will happily explain the lay of the land on Anguilla, though this is not exactly hard on an island with just a few roads. Mileage is unlimited, extra drivers come at no extra cost (except the additional licence) and baby-seats are available. Apex/Avis Car Rental accept all major credit cards. When the contract is drawn up you will be given a 24 hour contact number in case of emergency.
Apex/Avis Car Rental is a leading Anguilla car rental company but it is still relatively small. It has five employees. It was started by Stanley Mussington in the early 1980s, as tourism began to grow on Anguilla. He took on the Avis franchise in the mid 1990s. The company (both car hire and auto supplies) is now run by Stanley’s daughter Shana. |

Delivery
Apex/Avis Car Rental has a free delivery and pick-up service all over the island, with certain restrictions, see below. The staff knows all the hotels and apartments and the location of the various private villas and houses. They will complete the paperwork at your location (both the rental agreement and the compulsory Anguillian driving licence) and they will give you a road map of the island. You can return the car by leaving it at the airport or the ferry point and Apex/Avis will come to collect it. Or they can collect it from your accommodation.
Please note that Apex/Avis Car Rental is not permitted (by Anguillian law) to deliver to the points of entry to the island. These include the airport in the Valley and the ferry terminal at Blowing Point. Instead they suggest that you go to your accommodation and they will come to you. If you are visiting the island for the day from the ferry or from a yacht (anchored in, say, Sandy Ground/Road Bay) then you should contact them in advance before taking a cab to the offices, where they will complete the formalities and you can get on your way. |

Reservations
We recommend that all Caribbean car rental is booked in advance. If you are travelling during the busy seasons around Christmas, Easter, Carnival or Thanksgiving, it might be easiest if you book your car at the same time as you book your accommodation or holiday.
